Like the forest floor, NaturalFlow breaks down wastewater until it is safe to be reintroduced into the environment. The NaturalFlow system separates the black water (toilets and kitchen) from the grey water (showers and laundries) at their source, to prevent the solids from emulsifying with the bulk of the wastewater. The commercial water treatment system uses a combination of water treatment methods such as vermiculture and natural media filtering processes with zero use of electricity.

The treatment of the black water commences in the Wormorator, an enclosed ecosystem simulating the forest floor. Inside the chamber, the black water is directed onto a bark medium, which effectively filters out liquid and preserves maximum solids.

The residual solids are processed by tiger worms, breaking them down and converting them into water-soluble nutrients. Tigerworms are proven to be the most effective worms for this process and are able to consume as much as their body mass daily.

Finally, the liquid wastewater and nutrients flow through a series of natural filtration media’s to further purify them until they are ready to be brought back to the environment via a Land Application System.

NaturalFlow processes grey water with a practical simplified process. Separated from black water, low-toxicity grey water can be treated for reintroduction into the environment.

The treatment of grey water is achieved through various levels of natural settling and filtering processes, until scum and solids are treated and broken down to the point where they are safe to be reintroduced into the ecosystem. Grey water can be reused for surface or sub-surface irrigation, such as watering trees, orchards, hedges, plants, etc. A key advantage of this system is that it prevents problems like odour that commonly occur with septic tanks.

Reusing grey water can deliver significant savings for the commercial sector. Whether used for watering gardens or flushing toilets, the use of grey water can significantly reduce businesses’ dependence on the main.
